"What I did on my winter vacation"

So what did you do on your holiday break?  Still enjoying some well-deserved time off?  Well, we've sure been busy!  We finally finished putting together our application to the IRS to be recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.  Getting approved as a 501(c)(3) would mean we'd be eligible for grants from private foundations and other organizations.  It would also mean that donations to ICSPNW would be deductible on your federal taxes.

We understand it can take a few months to a year to get a decision.  We'll keep you posted!

Thank you, Portland!

We'd like to extend a hearty thank you to everyone who participated in our first ever Féile Portland Irish Weekend!  We hope you had as much fund as we did!  It was wonderful to see lots of familiar faces as well as meet new friends.

If you have comments, questions, or suggestions for future events, please let us know!  And that includes things we can do better.  (Yes, better nametags are at the top of that list.)  We want to be as responsive to your ideas as possible, so please keep them coming.  You can send us an email or feel free to submit a note via the Contact Us page on this website.

Thanks again and we hope to see everyone at the 2015 Sean-nós Northwest Festival in Olympia!

Final Schedule for Portland Festival

We've finalized our schedule for the Portland Festival!  On Saturday, we'll have classes on sean-nós love songs and light-hearted songs, set dancing, and sean-nós dancing.  Sunday's classes are dedicated to language at all skill levels.

You may have noticed we changed the Saturday schedule.  Folks wanted to be able to take a full day of classes on a single topic instead of splitting the day between singing and dancing.  You spoke, and we listened!  If you want to do some singing and some dancing, you are welcome to do so.  And if you want to just do one or the other, that's fine, too!

We look forward to seeing you in November!

Portland Festival of Irish Language and Culture Coming Soon!

Can't wait until next year's Sean-nós NW Festival in Olympia?  You don't have to!  We've added a second festival in Portland.  We hope you will join us for sean-nós singing, sean-nós dancing, and Gaeilge classes the weekend of November 8-9, 2014.  The festival will be held in SW Portland at the Renaissance School, 0234 SW Bancroft Street, just off Barbur Blvd.

Instead of doing an entire weekend of classes in each topic, we decided to try something new.  We're offering distinct blocks of classes:  a morning of singing, an afternoon of dancing, and a full day of language.  If you're interested in all topics, you won't have to choose which classes to take!  And if you're too busy to come for the whole weekend, just take a few hours and join us for your favorite topic.

There aren't any restaurants in close walking distance, so we're going to work out a box lunch option.  Please feel free to bring your lunch with you if you prefer.

We hope to see you there!

Cén scéal? What's the scoop?

We thought a brand-new web site deserved something else new -- a blog!  We plan to post updates and other interesting items here.  We hope you'll take the opportunity to comment and let us know what you think.  After all, the SNNW Festival is here to serve you, our attendees!

So let's start off with an obvious topic:  what do you think of our new web site?  Can you find what you're looking for?  Is the content interesting?  Is there something missing?  We want to know!  (We are still developing one extra page that will talk about what sean-nós is and where it comes from.  It just isn't done yet, but we're working on it!)

Please let us know in the comments what we're doing well and what changes you'd like to see.  Thank you for your input!
